HISTORY OF UMTC
Upstate Music Therapy Center LLC
Upstate Music Therapy Center LLC, formerly known as “Amy Thomas’ Music Therapy Services”, has been in existence since 1993. In the late 90’s the agency’s name changed to Upstate Music Therapy Center LLC. Since 1999 UMTC has held clinic space in Penfield, NY.
The agency was originally developed to primarily provide services for children’s needs and was inspired with the knowledge that all children are special and have unique talents, whatever their disability. Our agency is also committed to providing support to the parents and families of these children using care-based interactions for creating therapeutic plans, sharing progress and consulting, as appropriate. UMTC has since evolved as a provider for individuals of all ages.
In 2010 we began to provide services for teens and adults including adapted music lessons, music classes and other community offerings. Classes were begun to ensure creative arts options for families when developing a Self-Direct Program for their child, adult child or family member. In addition, UMTC began offering counseling services for all ages using a creative arts focus, mindfulness and talk therapy.
While the agency has evolved, our therapists have continually provided excellent clinical services. UMTC has provided opportunities for therapists, who have received their training at accredited universities and passed the Board Certification, to join our progressive center. Our therapists are dedicated to participating in continuing education opportunities both local and national.
